2 Cover Issue: Cover 1—Hot Wheels Racer (Mattel)
Cover 2—Masters of the Universe: He-Man, Ram-Man, and
Mekaneck (Hasboro)

Featured in this issue:
(begins pg. 57) Lee’s Guide to He-Man & Masters of the Universe: this 18 page guide challenges both the 80’s buffs and the new millennium fans alike to travel ‘round in time and get your hands on everything from the 1982 premiere to the 2002 vehicles and playsets. Of course, rare pieces and variations are thrown into the Eternia mix just to make things a bit more tricky…but don’t worry, we’ve included some of those photos and text descriptions, as well. If you have not yet seen Mattel’s unbelievable modifications and modernization of your favorite Masters of the Universe characters, then you just have no excuse for passing up this issue!!!

Also featured:

(pg. 4) Monthly G.I. Joe File: # 26—Stinger

(pg. 131) Transformers: Generation One Profile: # 16—Soundwave
#17—Buzzsaw

(pg. 12) McFarlane’s Sports Picks shakes it up with an Exclusive Canadian Maple Leafs 2-pack with Ed Blfour, and on the courts, NBA Series 2 unleashes THE Shaq, Elton Brand, Kwame Brown, and Antawan Jamison. For the people out there who were born with a paddle and a joystick in their hands, MLB Slugfest 2003 should be a blast and a half. And, to add a cool little twist, Todd McFarlane himself, as well as president of entertainment, Terry Fitgerald, are featured players in the GameCube/Xbox spectacular. Want to know the codes to unlock Todd and Terry? They won’t come out to play unless you ask them in a certain way, and we’ve got the secrets right here. Hmm, interesting, isn’t it?! Join us and you’ll find out, too!

(pg. 16) Marvel Legends 2 is headed for the spotlight during the month of October…soaring to the shelves are Dr. Doom, the Human Torch, Thing, and Namor. There is rumoured to be a Dr. Doom variant, but what is the variation, you ask? You’d better stay tuned into Lee’s… Toy Biz is also conjuring a massive deluge of magic and mystery to spread across the land, as The Lord of the Rings—The Two Towers rallies more excitement and anticipation than the movie trailer. Join Gandalf the White, Saruman, Theoden, Eowyn, Ring Wraith & Steed, Aragorn & Breego, and oh so many more, as they prepare for the next adventurous journey. Also, as Christmas is slowly creeping upon us (it is already September 2002!), feast your eyes on the Deluxe Fellowship of the Ring Gift Set. Have you begun your list yet?

(pg. 19) Here it is…the moment that just a few of us have been waiting for, for almost twenty years…the re-release/revamping of the Masters of the Universe line. Mattel has outdone themselves this time, delivering us back to the wild, crazy world of 80’s toys, but, unveiling an even more rugged, more powerful side to the men, women, and…creatures of Eternia.
Castle Grayskull has been completely refurbished and equipped with animatronic devices; now, the bridges, gates, and doors can readily recognize dwellers and intruders, and can perform respective tasks for heroes and foes. Skeletor is in for an interesting surprise when he now attempts to gain entry…this is way too good to wait any longer!

(pg. 28) (Comic Con, San Diego) The 33rd Annual Comic Con International event in San Diego, CA this August hailed some pretty interesting people, plans, and plastic sculpts. Our managing editor, Jim Tomlinson, snags horror hero Stan Winston for an exclusive interview, Amy Allen, a.k.a. "Aayla" from Star Wars Episode II, flashed some smiles and fired out some autographs. A life-size Ringwraith & Steed at the Lord of the Rings pavilion, along with Comic Con exclusives such as "Spawn the Bloodaxe" (McFarlane), "Invisible Spray Fozzie" (Palisades), and a specially made variant of He-Man (Mattel) instantly bowled over the crowd.

(pg. 39) (Comic Con, San Diego) And, here is the other "must-have" at any and every toy convention…G.I. Joe, A Real American Hero. The TRU Exclusives were quite praiseworthy: an M8 Light Armored Car, a US Army Tae Kwan Do Instructor, and a Modern Day Land Warrior. Deep Water Rescuers, US Marshalls, AT Undercover Agents, Red Alert Rescuers, and Desert Patrol JEEPS policed the exhibit and kept everything on the level.

(pg. 41) (Comic Con, San Diego) Get ready, Joe fans…now you can have your favorite Joe vs. Cobra battling pairs, to own! Get your own adrenaline-packed version of Hasboro’s "Bat vs. Shipwreck", "Big Ben vs. Alley Viper", "Dusty vs. Desert C.L.A.W.S.", "Flint vs. Baroness", "Stalker vs. NEO-Viper", "Storm Shadow vs. Scarlett", and "Zartan vs. Stalker". The Tiger Force 5-pack claws its way into the public eye, featuring "Big Brawler", "Jinx", "Dial Tone", "Stalker", and a brand new character, "Wreckage". You’ll be sorry if you miss this one…and I don’t think you’ll be on Joe’s good side, either!

Are you a child of the 80’s; do you remember some of the coolest cartoons ever made, being played, every Saturday morning?! Here they are once again, but this time, you can have them forever! Join Toynami, as they take you on a journey into the past, reliving excursions with "Thundarr the Barbarian", "Bird Man", the "Blue Falcon", and "The Herculoids". They’re all back, and ready to go…these guys are not just for Saturday mornings anymore! Robotech sparks up some new figures, "Veritech Morphers", Mini-Busts, and I-Men figures. This clan is made of a whole lot more than metal…

(pg. 55) Join Lee’s…, as we enjoy an intimate conversation with Kelly Winnik, a Manufacturer’s Sales Rep. for Diamond Select and Mezco Toyz. Find out what this position actually entails, and learn how you, too, can be a grown-up who’s paid to eat, sleep, breathe..toys!

(pg. 79) DMV stuffs the trunk full of car collectable craziness for the month of September! 30 year-old Micro Hot Wheels are back, under the punchy new name, the ATOMIX. You can’t miss these little bad boys…Disney comes out with its very own Wild Racers, featuring die-cast vs. die-cast 2-packs, bearing the likeness of both good and evil stars. Watch "Street Waggin’ and Screamin’ Speeder" (101 Dalmations), "Cobra Stryker" and "Arabian Flyer" (Aladdin), duke it out in the gravely pits! Get the scoop on what went down at the "Wild Weekend of Hot Wheels", with custom "eye candy" created by the competitors from across the country and Canada! Johnny Lightning celebrates James Bond’s 40th Anniversary with a swingin’ set of his getaways, luxuries, and "practical" vehicles… Marvel Comic Book Cars (Johnny Lightning) releases its 2nd string…see who’s speeding in this time! Don’t pass up a two-part Hot Wheels, New Release for September, 2002, and "Casting Call" brings the Baja Bug front and center. Get the lead out, hit the gas, and grab this issue!
