(pg. 4) Monthly G.I. Joe File: # 21 Wolverine
(pg. 131) Transformers: Generation One Profile: # 8--Skywarp

(pg. 10) (Toy Fair Showroom) Of course, we all know that Dragon is reknown for its stunnningly accurate portraits of ecclectic WWII figures, but at the 2002 Toy Fair display, they’ve managed to wow the crowds once again. A batch of figures, from the “Task Force Rangers” line, made a fabulous first impression on this toy-loving group. Naturally, a handful of fresh and fiesty WWII figures are on parade; Lee’s gives you twelve full-color images to feast upon until you can get your hands on the actual figures. And, as with any kooky and creative toy company, some interesting protoypes captured our attention. Find out for yourself just what “Chainsaw Hunter” rotos by Elphonso Lam, and the “Tokyo guns vinyls” prototypes are all about...
(pg. 12) (Toy Fair Showroom) We all know that the wonderful world of toys wouldn’t let The Muppets’ 25th anniversary slip by without giving the whole cast a proper salute. Palisades Marketing released a set of action figures immortalizing America’s favorite furry puppets; Kermit, Miss Piggy, Dr. Bunson Honeydew, Beeker in his lab, Fozzie, and Gonzo prototypes were all in attendance. Wouldn’t you like to know who is to be released in the next wave? You’ll have to read on... Yet more eye candy was provided at this display with the first four of a series of G.I. Joe resin busts. These are truly a must-see! The whole presentation was rounded out with “Micronauts”, and the best-loved, freaky, foaming, unearthly beings: the main attractions of the Alien and Predator films. Yikes!
(pg. 16) (Toy Fair Showroom) Well, I know this would be MY favorite showroom~ Playmates enticed viewers with Series 9, two 2-packs, and even a giant school bus straight from Springfield--home of the American underrated family, The Simpsons. Disco Stu, Rod and Tod Flanders, convicts Sideshow Bob and Krusty, and a few more family members hit the streets. Some amusing playsets, like the cafeteria with lunch lady Doris, and the Springfield Retirement Castle with Jasper make their way to the forefront. You MUST check out this lineup of the funniest and yellow-est characters of all time!
(pg. 20) (Toy Fair Showroom) Put your money on the table, and get ready for a Toy Fair inside peak at McFarlane’s “Sports Picks”. Shaq, Kwame Brown, and Antwan Jackson slam dunk in “NBA Series 2”, “NHL Series 4” breaks the ice with Mike Modano, Pavel Bure, Scott Stevens, Joe Sakic and more; last but certainly not least, watch Bret Favre, Jason Sehorn, Rickey Williams, Terrell Owens and mates tackle “NFL Series 4”. “MLB Series 2 & 3” are more fun than eating a ballpark hotdog at a double-header! Nomar, Jeter, Bonds, Sosa, Clemens and Griffey, Jr., Giambi, Ramirez, Adam Dunn, and Alomar are just the starting lineup of these base-stealing, bat-hurling tough guys. Now you can watch these guys playing in your livingroom...literally!
(pg. 24) (Toy Fair Showroom) If the “Sports Picks” didn’t tickle your fancy, McFarlane comes back with the other side of the mirror...”Movie Maniacs V” brings to life The Tooth Fairy, an18” Edward Scissorhands, T-800 Endoskeleton (Terminator), The Wish Master, Jason X, Sarah Conner (Terminator II), and...The Darkness (Legend). The line also puts its own freaky spin on some frighteningly familiar faces with McFarlane’s “Monsters”. Watch out for Dracula, The Mummy, the Sea Creature, Werewolf, Frankenstein, and the enchanting Voodoo Queen. Seven blood-seeking warriors wave their axes in “Spawn: Viking Age”, and a tribute to “Image Comics 10th Anniversary” pays homage to characters such as, (of course), Todd MacFarlane’s Spawn, and Mark Sylvestri’s Rip Claw from Cyberforce. For those who are always randy for rock and roll, McFarlane Music gives you the entire KISS band in their Creatures of the Night assortment. Want to rock harder than that? You’ve got it..Iron Maiden’s “The Trooper”, one of two that will be released in 2002, commemorates one of the royal members of the heavy metal clan.
(pg. 28) (Toy Fair Showroom) From the company that brings you those too-groovy Austin Powers figures, Mezco had so much more hidden up their sleeve until the 2002 Toy Fair. A tribute to the new generation of teens and twenty-somethings inspires the birth of a pack of brothas who call themselves HOODZ’. Give a shout-out to Fat Cap, Signstein, Vapor, and Letterman while the skate, spray paint, and then just chill... The company proves it’s a small world as it compacts characters in a line dubbed “Mez-Itz.” These little, lego-like personalities are popping up everywhere; look teeny terrors like Freddy Krueger (Nightmare on Elm Street), Leatherface (Texas Chainsaw Massacre), and Jason (Friday the 13th). Oh, behave, when bite-size Austin, Dr. Evil, Mini Me, and Sumo Fat Bastard come your way. Were those 4...or 5 or 6...years of college “the best years”? Bluto Blutarsky still can’t stop partying, and leads off the Animal House figure assortment. Blutarsky joins Flouder and D-Day in mini “Met-Itz” form, as well. Popeye the Sailorman bears eight new figures in our Metzo corner, and takes you back to those cartoon-filled mornings. Finally, the ghoulish girls and boys of the “Living Dead Dolls”, in addition to the devilish dolls in regular and mini form, try to motivate the, shall we say, less enthusiastic, to get excited about back to school. Lunch boxes, stationary, and, featured in a later issue, a “creative” pencil sharpener are among the satanic school supplies.
(pg. 32) (Toy Fair Showroom) bbi presents some brand new commandos. Freedom Force unleashes a band of Americn boys for 2002, as well as a protoype for a “Female F-15A Pilot”, a “1:18 US Army Humvee”, “US Seal Humvee”, “Zodiac Rubber Raiding Craft”, and an international panel of WWII soldiers. Have you always wanted to customize your own figure? Well, check out the “bucks”, as they are called--”Body Builders” for males, and “Perfect Body” (brand new) for females. Now is your chance to custom-make your own person! Isn’t that everyone’s dream?!
(pg. 36) (Toy Fair Showroom) Where can you find the casts of James Bond, 007; The Muppets; and The Lord of the Rings all hanging out, sipping coffee, and chatting it up? At theSideshow Toy booth, naturally. This creative and well-rounded company dished out some pretty tall orders, as shown in our double-page spread. First, The Muppets, in honor of their 25 years, are presented in bust form. Head-to-waist versions of “Sam the Eagle”, “ Beeker”, “Scooter”, “The Swedish Chef”, and others were on display. Bond 007 beared likenesses of a few of the James Bonds over the years: Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, George Lazenby, and of course, Sean Connery. Also, Honor Blackman parades as “Pussy Galore” from Goldfinger. The Lord of the Rings hype certainly hasn’t stopped at the box office...Sideshow Weta Collectables released busts, figures with stand, bookends, and even collectable environments. Look to these amazingly beautiful sculptures to tide you over until the next movie invades the theatres.
(pg. 38) (Toy Fair Showroom) Hasbro delivers with “Star Wars” and “Star Wars Episode 2” figures; feast your intergalactic eyes on the deluxe Obi-Wan and Count Dooku, Shaak Ti, R3-T7, Deluxe Mace Windu, Senator Jar Jar, and the rest. 12” Anakin Skywalker, Super Battle Droid, and Dengar stand out among the others, and board games like “Queen’s Gambit”, “Atack of the Clones”, and “Sith Rising” card game temp those true die-hard fans. Some sneak previews...snuck their way onto our Hasboro page, so don’t be left in outer space. Check them out!
(pg. 44) (Toy Fair Showroom) Another Hasboro favorite is, of course, the G.I. Joe display. Featured fighters include “Ernie Pyle-War Correspondent”, “D-Day Point Du Hoc Ranger”, and “Emergency Rescue” workers. Scenarios (themed soliders and equipment) show “Danger of the Depths”, “Search for the Yeti”, and “Navy Crash Crew”. What more can we say about the Real American Hero? You just have to see for yourself...
(pg. 48) (Toy Fair Showroom) Digger and the Art Asylum crew show off their eerily accurate rendition of the crew of Star Trek: Enterprise. Also made available are personal versions of the communicator, phaser, and “Enterprise NX-01”. Scott Bakula even makes an appearance to inspect his figure, and answer some of the “trekkies” ‘ most pressing questions. The WB’s Dark Angel protagonists are honored with their own figures...and Max brought her cycle, too. The crazy cartoon band, Gorillaz, shows up with some cool accessories, personalized for each band member. Oh, and that big, purple zombie Gorilla found his way to the booth, as well! Mini Mates, Art Asylum’s version of the pocket-size world of movies and music, unveils a Bruce Lee, kiss, Star Trek, Dark Angel, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon assortment. Also in the spirit of KISS, a set of the four band members called “N the Box” gives a kind of...gothic/ souped-up version of the classic “Jack-in-the-Box” of yesterday.
(pg. 51) (Toy Fair Showroom) 21st Century Toys powers up with a fresh batch of “Ultimate Soldier” gear (half of which is shown in this issue; the other half is conquered in Issue #115). The 2002 unit hails Fire/ Rescue and Law Enforcement officers, gear, and vehicles--of course, new-fangled additions to the Vietnam and WWII sets are a-plenty, as well.
(pg. 52) (Toy Fair Showroom) The love-to-loves and love-to-hates from Lord of the Rings, as well as the legends of Marvel Comics team up in the Toy Biz booth. Take a gander at the “Samwise and Frodo” and “Uruk-Hai vs. Gimli” twin packs, as well as “Aragorn”, “Bilbo Baggins”, an “Orc Warrior”, and “Elrond”. “Marvel Legends” salutes “Ironman”, “Thing”, “Captain America”, and many more... the “Marvel Studios” line shows off their superhero strength with a 12” “Blade”, “Wolverine Weapon X”, “Deadpool”, “Punisher”, and other familiar masked faces.
(pg. 54) (Toy Fair Showroom) Of course, the blockbuster action flick of 2002 has to have its very own toy tribute...Toy Biz displays a flood of figures depicting Spider-Man in every conceivable scenario; he can go from Karate black-belt to wrestler, back to Peter Parker with a flip of the page. See how they’ve mastered the likeness of Kirsten Dunst’s portrayal of Mary Jane, and marvel (no pun intended!) at the awesomw life-size accessories that YOU can actually own and use!
(pg. 82) (Toy Fair Showroom) DMV puts its own spin on Toy Fair 2002, and finds quite a few tiny treasures, such as the “Hot Wheels Preferred” series--miniatures with real rubber tires. Find out when, where, and how to get your hands on these! See which lines big their final farewell and bring down the curtain to make way for the new die-cast divas of tomorrow... This month’s casting call celebrates the “Zender Fact 4”; take a look at every single color and hub variation under the sun! And, don’t forget about the slew of new Hot Wheels releases...too many to ever pass up!
