(pg. 20) bbi unleashes some new kinds of fury, both human and...not SO human. From the much-loved interactive video game from Eidos/ AE’s Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver comes "Dumah". He is a terrifying 12" vampire lieutenant who can easily make anyone begin running in the other direction! And of course, what would any ghoulish, fearful creature of the night be without light-up eyes... Marching on with the Elite Force line, two go-getter soldiers are introduced: "US Army Special Force-Delta Force and Green Beret". The line has been designed as a spectacular tribute to all the men and women who have banded together to combat worldwide terrorism. If you’ve got a certain patriotic flair, then you must check out these newcomers! bbi also does a meet & greet with some femmes who will make your heart race in more ways than one! Say hello to theCy Girls--"Cutie Honey" is the first released among this line of wild women. Get a sneak preview of "Nikki", one of the three others in the make as of March 2002. These ladies are bold, beautiful, and can certainly take care of themselves...watch out for them in your area! Added to the list of up-and-coming for the 2002 NYC Toy Fair are the Kelly Chen figures, theBlue Angels, and the Richard Marcinko line, (from Leadership Secrets of the Rogue Warrior)... (pg. 28) What’s going to be in the Hasboro showroom at Toy Fair 2002, you ask? Which new Simpsons characters will pop up at Playmates? Do you think we have the answers to that a month in advance??? We’ll we do! Sneak a peek, just like we did, into the new world of Springfield’s finest, including "Rod & Tod Flanders", "Convict Krusty", complete with the "so-small" feet, "Disco Stu", "Sunday’s Best Lisa", the crew from "Homer’s Space Oddysey", "Sherri & Terri, Uter"...the list goes on and on. And, there are two to-die-for playsets at which to take a gander! For those who are just too enthralled with the continuing Star Wars saga to care much about anything else, Hasboro feeds the fire. See, before the rest of the toy-loving world, the 2002 Toy Fair "Jango Fett", the "Star Wars arena playset", "Chewy & Han", "Darth Maul" in flight, "Vader", monsters, mutants, villians, and heroes, all mixed together in one cauldron of star-studded adventure. There has also been a little spying done on Art Asylum, bbi, LEGO,Dragon, JAKKS, McFarlane, Mezco, Sideshow Toy, 21st Century Toys, Mattell, Toy Biz and other Hasboro products...but we’ve already told you enough....you’ll have to read and see for yourself about the rest! (pg. 30) Are you ready for yet another Toy Fair 2002 sneak peek?! Art Asylum conjures up a dose of Mini Mates for all of you true hard rockers out there; say hello to pocket-sized versions of Alice Cooper, Rob Zombie, Iron Maiden’s "Eddie", and of course, Ozzy Osbourne. The Star Trek Enterprise crew sets down the ship in New York City, as well as the toon sensation band, Gorillaz. Action figure versions Of 2-D, Murdoc, Noodle, and Russell are soon-to-own as of March, 2002! The bbi showroom is sure to be spectacular, as usual, with the unveiling of some fresh recruits from Elite Force, and brand new 1:18 scale modes. LEGO catches another case of movie madness, revealing characters from Harry Potter Chamber of Secrets and Star Wars. And, as we all know, Hasboro naturally has something phenomenal up their sleeve...they proudly present G.I. Joe 1:6 scale models, reissues of their classic G.I. Joe, a Real American Hero. Transformers Armada powers up, and the Men in Black make a come-back on screen and in stores alike. Be on the lookout for the MIB II action figures of Agent J, Agent Kay, and more! (pg. 32) We continue on the sneak peek adventure with the Dragon exhibit at the Jacob Javits Center. New Gen Life 1:6 scale models are publicized, as well as Action 1:18 scales. There’s always mayhem and mutilation, pushing around and the people’s eyebrow goin’ down at the Jakks Pacific showroom; This is just too much excitement to put into words, wrestle maniacs, you can’t miss this one...these are ringside seats! McFarlane know just how to wow a crowd, presenting a slew of new additions to their already incredible lines. MLB Sports Picks shows off its newest addition, Derek Jeter, NFL hails Ricky Williams and more, and NBA has some slammin’ surprises in store. H ot off the press are some new KISS figures, and Movie Maniacs 5 emerges, including a wicked sculpt of the Lord of Darkness from the 80’s fantasy film Legend. Spawn fanatics, fear not...there is something behind this curtain just for you; Spawn, Viking Age takes the stage...keep your eyes peeled! (pg. 33-34) We bring the preview to a close with more enticing sights and sounds; Mezco brings the greatest college flick to sculpted life with the "heroes" of Animal House, and the urban band of brothas’, HOODZ finally go from concept art to creation. The Living Dead Dolls carry on their nightmarish parade with Series 3, and Popeye sails on into Series 2. The Palisades showroom is full of "welcome back"’s and paying homage to the classics--a new line of The Muppets is soon to be available as of March, 2002, the Micronauts make their much-anticipated return, and a thrilling collection of G.I. Joe busts is on display. Sideshow Toy also celebrates the 25th anniversary of The Muppet Show with wonderful commemorative busts of most every character, (to see them all, be sure to pick up our official Toy Fair issues--#114 & 115!). Sideshow/WETA, the collaborative effort bringing you the magical assortment of Lord of the Rings collectables unveils Balrog, aimed and ready for combat are the Platoon 1:6 scale models, and a 1:6 scale model of the hat-slinging Odd Job is released from the James Bond series. 21st Century Toys makes way for some have-to-owns in The Ultimate Soldier collection. Mattel thrills the children of the 80’s as well as today’s kids with release 2 for He-Man, Masters of the Universe. New Harry Potter figures are soon to fly onto shelves near you, and revv up, Hot Wheels fans...it’s time for some serious Racing! And finally, Toy Biz gets in on the movie mania, as well, and shows off some of its figures from Spider-Man: The Movie. Also, get just the smallest glimpse at the unfathomable Lord of the Rings exhibit...but we warn you, you won’t get past the cave troll in this issue...you’ll have to read on to see what awaits you inside... (pg. 36) Aside from the extra-special glimpse inside their toyfair display, we bring you a few more helpings of a Sideshow Toy magic for March. Do you watch the Twilight Zone marathons each year on New Year’s Eve? If so, surely you couldn’t forget one of the most chillingly bizarre episodes ever created...from "The Eye of the Beholder", come the Dr. and Nurse team to collect and own for all time. They’re so incredibly strange, who can resist?! Universal Studios Monsters pays homage to three more masters of silver screen mayhem; presenting Lugosi as "Bela the Gypsy" in The Wolf Man, Lon Chaney, Jr. as "The Monster" in The Ghost of Frankenstein, and Dean Fry as "Renfield" in Dracula. Favorites from Hogan’s Heroes and Get Smart have finally taken sculpted form, as well as "Sgt. Elias, Private Taylor, and Sgt. Barnes" from the Vietnam blockbuster Platoon. If you’re a comedy buff, then these figures are certainly made for you! From the absurdly clever world of Mont y Python comes "Tim the Enchanter" and from ...The Holy Grail, The Black Knight. (pg. 38) Gus Lopez takes you on a journey through the archives of unreleased Star Wars toys and figures from back when Luke, Obi, Han, and Chebacca were not yet household names. Find out which ideas never saw the light of day, and why they were stopped in their tracks! And, for more information on this particular subject, stay tuned into Lee’s... for the next two sections of this three-part review! (pg. 42) This month, Dragon gives an intimate portrait of members of Operation Enduring Freedom AFSOC PJ, Operation Swift Freedom Central Intelligence Covert Force, a German Afrika Korps Squad Leader, German Feldgendarmerie Motorcyclist & 3rd Division Fallshirmjager Division members, and a Fallshimjager in Italy. Also on display is each soldier’s set of equipment and accessories, from an FG42 (late version), to web belts and dispatch cases, to Fallshirmjager jump smocks. (pg. 48) Fright fans, prepare to meet one of the ultimate creator of chills...Stan Winston, a genius of motion picture special effects, has been stewing and slaving over a new line of terrifically terrifying beings, rightly dubbed Stan Winston Creatures. Find out, in this Lee’s... exclusive interview, what possessed him to conjure up a toy line bearing his name and his ghoulish talents, where he began his adventure with action figures, and what is in store for the future for these...creatures. (pg. 50) Welcome to the grand opening the biggest, brightest, fastest, funn-est Toys R’ Us ever...and, wow, what a surprise, it’s in Times Square, New York City. This mega-version of America’s favorite toy store boasts a 60-foot indoor Ferris Wheel, a 25-foot replica of the Statue of Liberty, made entirely, of course, from LEGOS, life-size versions of your favorite Hot Wheels die-casts, and oh so many more surprises. If you can’t get to NYC anytime soon, better tide yourself over with this mini-tour! (pg. 51) 21st Century Toys hails to The Ultimate Soldier--for March, 2002, proudly presented are the F4Y-1D Corsair w/ pilot figure, the Stuka Dive Bomber w/ pilot and gunner, and the P38 Lightning Interceptor w/ pilot figure. 7 new figures emerge and take the front lines, and replicas are made of a Normandy Farmhouse and a Bombed French Building. (pg. 53) Dreams and Visions, Hasboro, and DC Comics have formed an alliance to bring the anticipating public some G.I. Joe figures from the classic Joe Kubert comic series. See here preliminaries for the members of the "Easy Company", "Mademoiselle Marie" (meow!), and Blackhawk. Also, DC Comics unveils its very own version of G.I. Joe himself. (pg. 73) DMV has something new in store for you in the month of March...oh, and something old, too. A line of classically cool cars has come out to play, called Auto Milestones; it features such late, great beauties as the 1963 Corvette, 1959 Cadillac Convertable, 1932 Ford, and more. Make a mad dash to get your hands on the 2002 Kentucky Derby Exclusive, find out which models have reached the "End of the Line", and, of course, you can’t miss March’s Hot Wheels new releases or the Casting Call, paying homage to the Ferrari Testarossa.
