PRODUCT REVIEW: MASCAR Displays
Written by James Tomlinson

Why do we like these cases so much?  Let's count the ways.  First, they look good -- basic black polystyrene backs with clear polyethylene snap-on dust covers.  The black backs make those Hot Wheels colors go KA-POW!  Second, we love the snap-on action of the cover.  Easy on, easy stay on, easy off.   Third, we love the one-piece construction of the backs.  There's nothing to assemble -- no little acrylic dividers to mess with.  All of it is an exercise in simplicity, and we love simplicity.  Next, we like the weight of the cases.  If you're worried about the weight of these cases hanging on your wall (they're wall display cases), forget about it.  They won't pull the wall down.  Both cases are very light-weight .  Yeah, a solid oak case with a framed glass front would be swellegant, but it would be pricey and weigh a short half ton once it was filled with zinc.  Maybe you're thinking, "vac-molded plastic equals light weight and flimsy."  Not true.  These are light-weight but rugged.  This is a heavy-gauge (.06" thick) vac-molded High Impact Styrene back, with a same thickness clear PETG dust cover (polyethelene Terephthalate Copolymer).  In truth, the lion's share of the weight in your wall display will come from the die-cast Hot Wheels vehicles you put in them, and even that won't be much.   The cases each weigh under 3 pounds, empty.  Figure they'll be anywhere between 6 and 8 pounds chock full of Hot Wheels.  We suggest you mount the case to the wall with anchored screws, which are available at any hardware store.  You won't need to get too heavy duty on anchor screws either, no more than you would hanging a heavy framed photo or painting.  Yes, it will depend on whether you fill your case up entirely with VW Drag Buses or Go-Karts, how heavy you'll want to go on your anchor screws.

Here are the specs for both cases:

Mascar Pro (for carded vehicles):

Size:  2 3/8" (deep) x 20" x 25 3/4" (outside trim)
Base material:  .06 thk. HIS (high impact styrene)
Cover material:  .06 thk. PETG (polyethylene Terephthalate Copolymer)
Quantity of 4 1/4" wide carded cars:  52 (depending on card height)
Weight:  2.65 lbs. (without cars)

Mascar Ultima
Mascar Ultima (shown with model and cars not included)

The High Tech design of the Mascar Ultima incorporates  an easy clear snap-on dust cover. The Mascar Ultima holds 65 loose 1/64th scale diecast cars. (Note: model and cars are not included.)

Mascar Ultima (for loose vehicles, below):

Base material:  .06 thk. HIS (high impact styrene)
Cover material:  .06 thk. PETG (polyethylene Terephthalate Copolymer)
Quantity of 1/64th scale diecast cars: 65

The Mascar Ultima case, for loose vehicle display, will hold up to 65 Hot Wheels/1:64 scale vehicles.  The little cubicles are just the right size to hold virtually any Hot Wheels vehicle, from a Go-Kart or Scorchin' Scooter to a Hi-Way Hauler or VW Drag Bus.  The Mascar Pro case, for carded number packs will hold up to 52 cards (card width 4-1/4") -- just like a poker deck -- except there's no gamble here.  This is a sure-fire winner.    We especially love the design of the case for carded cars.  Looking at it for a second one begins to think, "Okay, what if I want to take one of the bottom cards out to look at it after I have this thing all fully loaded?  Do I have to empty that whole row of cards out to do it?"  No siree, Hot Wheeler.  Thanks to the forward-thinking designer of this case, all you have to do is snap off the dust cover, back the card you want up (along with all the ones above it) far enough to lift the bottom of the card up through the gap between hold-down tabs, and BINGO!  Slide 'er right out.  Putting it back in place is just as easy.

Lastly, but not certainly not leastly, what we love about these cases is the price.  The Mascar Pro case organizes and stores 52 carded cars for just $24.95 each, plus shipping.  The Mascar Ultima case organizes and stores up to 62 cars, and sells for just $29.95 each, plus shipping.   Either one amounts to less than a single fill-up at the gas station!   To order yours, click on this link: www.mascardisplays.com, or call toll free 866-204-4887.  Tell 'em you read about it in Lee's Toy Review.  That fact alone will distinguish you.
