Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Update
Written by James Tomlinson
Wednesday, 01 October 2008

So, with more unconfirmed than confirmed, what do we know for sure at this point, and where are we at with the rumors?

What we kinda know.

Michael Bay and producer Steven Spielberg have alluded in past interviews with other outlets that, if there was ever going to be a follow up to "Transformers", they would want to create a film adaptation of the Unicron Saga. The mutual feeling on that is that because it covers almost the entirety of past Transfomers media (the original series, the newer cartoon and the comic books), that it's a no-brainer.

The latest.

At the MTV movie awards (held June 1, 2008 in LA), when accepting the award for Best Movie, co-star Megan Fox raved about how good the sequel was going to be.  Also, Rainn Wilson, told The Associated Press that night that he would play "a college professor" in "Transformers 2."  Director Michael Bay gave up that the storyline will pick up two years after the first film.

What Autobots, Decepticons, and human cast members will make a second appearance?

We think we know for sure that Soundwave will play a role in Megatron's revival.  So, yeah, we expect right now to see a return of Megatron in some fashion.  Rumors are rampant that Megatron will return as a reformatted Galvatron.

That's Megatron -- now who else?

For the flesh and blood actors look for Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, and John Turturro to return.

For the Transformers  look for Optimus Prime, Rachet, Bumblebee, Ironhide, Starscream, and Barricade.

One of the big teasers is that there will be a return of a vengeful Transformer, hence the title of the film.  Now, Megatron is almost certainly coming back.  The big rumor is that Jazz, junked by Megatron in the first film, will somehow return.  If that's actually the case, a return like that could certainly fit the bill of the title.

While speaking with MTV news a while back, Bay divulged that "upwards of 20 robots will do battle in the sequel."

So far the Decepticons Soundwave and Ravage, as well as Autobot sideswipe have been confirmed. Other Transformers that are rumored include:  Skyfire, Arcee, Astrotrain, Wheeljack, Megatron (pictures of a Cybertonian tank have been "leaked" on the internet), Devastator (art has been pulled off the Internet of Long Haul, sparking rumors that Devastator will be in the mix somewhere).

That's the update for now.  Stay tuned.  We should have more updates in the next month.

Quote of the day

Robin: "Picked up the seal pulsator yet, Batman?"
Batman: "We're still over land, Robin, and a seal is an aquatic, marine mammal."
Robin: "Gosh, yes, Batman, I forgot."
