What sounds like a soap-opera, but flies like a bat?  Mattel finally previewed packaged Batman: The Brave and the Bold figures. At www.mattycollector.com you can see the first wave of singles, 2-packs, and vehicles.

Each figure features what Mattel is calling "Snap and Switch" technology, which is supposed to allow you to Frankenstein each figure's accessories into multiple gadgets on different plug in points. For instance, Batman's jet pack becomes his battle armor, or you can plug it into Blue Beetle. Snap and Switch features will also allow you to modulate and customize vehicle parts as well.

At first, cursory glance, we went -- "Uh-Oh!  Generic packaging!"  That's instant points off with us.  Then, we squinted.  It's not generic packaging at all, it's character-dedicated packaging.  At the top right of each card front, in dynamic black and red duotone, is the head shot of the enclosed character.  So!  Kudos there Mattel!

This wave hits stores next month.  Batman: The Brave and the Bold, airs Friday nights at 8:00 on Cartoon Network.

Quote of the day

Robin: "Picked up the seal pulsator yet, Batman?"
Batman: "We're still over land, Robin, and a seal is an aquatic, marine mammal."
Robin: "Gosh, yes, Batman, I forgot."
