Real Sports Picks variants to rejoin lineups
Written by James Tomlinson

McFarlane Toys just announced two significant developments
concerning the institution of "chase figures" in its Sports Picks lines.
This fall, McFarlane Toys integrated the chase program into full lineups,
but severely limited the differences between variants and regular figures.
This was done with a view toward reducing scalping and putting more
variants on the field.

However, as we all know, the extreme subtlety of the chase
differences not only made them hard to spot at retail, but also
didn't seem worth the extra purchase.  This phenomenon was
remarked upon in detail by our own Chris Janoso in his monthly
Sports Picks column in the pages of Lee's Toy Review magazine.

In response to the collector requests, McFarlane Toys has
reconsidered that tactic, and will now be reinstating what it calls "classic
chase figures," meaning alternate jerseys, retro looks, and
the sorts of things Sports Picks collectors traditionally flock toward
as a true "variant."  These variants will begin to appear in Sports Picks
lineups next March with the MLB 2009 Wave 1 lineup.

Quote of the day

Robin: "Picked up the seal pulsator yet, Batman?"
Batman: "We're still over land, Robin, and a seal is an aquatic, marine mammal."
Robin: "Gosh, yes, Batman, I forgot."
