Book Review
Written by Nicholas R. Messina, Jr.

The "Meccano" figures—as they have come to be known in collector circles—have become increasingly popular in recent years, which makes this guide essential for anyone looking to add some of these rare figures to their collection.  The book includes full-color photography of all the vintage Star Wars figures known to exist on Meccano and European trilogo cards and presents a well-detailed history of the line.  Much of the information in the book is sure to interest even old school collectors.  Information includes such choice tidbits as how the first 20 figures remained issued on Star Wars logo cards even during The Empire Strikes Back run.  You’ll also read about how Meccano made the radical change to the now infamous 6 1/3" x 7 1/10" packaging footprint, in order to economize space at retail.
In addition to figures, the book delves into many of the vehicles and playsets distributed by Meccano—many of which differ from their U.S. counterparts. For example, France saw the X-Wing initially released with no electronics before the standard version hit the country, and their version of Luke Skywalker’s Landspeeder featured a canopy that did not pop open; the familiar chrome silver bars were actually soft plastic shiny stickers as opposed to hard plastic.  There is also an extensive catalog section toward the end of the book, which depicts rare prototypes such as the 12-inch scale Luke Skywalker in Bespin Fatigues, Princess Leia in Bespin Gown, Han Solo in Hoth Battle Gear, Lando Calrissian and the Tauntaun.
A treat for fans and collectors alike, Meccano to Trilogo: French to European Vintage Star Wars Action Figure Toys is available through (click here).  Highly recommended.  Order yours today — you’ll be glad you did!
