Star Trek die cast NCC 1701A?

O.K. Hello all, I have found the new collection of Die Cast Star Trek Ships. the first one I picked up was an old friend NCC 1701 Enterprise, but the box reads NCC1701A. Also the picture shows that the model in the box is correct. but the decals on the picture says NCC 1701A. Also pictured on the box is the NCC 1701, the model is the ship from the new movie released in 2009. Any advice on the future for this Item?

Re: Star Trek die cast NCC 1701A?

Here's the skinny.  What you have is a packaging variation.

The Enterprise from the first three Star Trek movies was known as the Enterprise 1701 Refit. It doesn't look like the classic tv show Enterprise because it was upgraded with a refit.

After the Enterprise was destroyed at the end of Star Trek III, the crew got a new Enterprise named the 1701-A.

The ships are identical.  1701 Refit and 1701-A look exactly the same.

Mattel inadventantly didn't have matching packaging and decal tampos on the ship inside the box.  While the ships are identical, the packaging itself identified the ship as the 1701-A while the ships insignia declared it at the plain 1701 (which is the refit version).

Mattel has since changed the packaging to reflect the ship inside, changing the packaging to say "Enterprise 1701 Refit" on the box.

From what I understand, the error was caught, and the box change was made pretty early on, so the error packaging version is more scarce than the corrected version.

Live long and prosper smile
