Hot Wheels Question

I have a few questions. I have a 2006 - #183 - Scorchin' Scooter - green. My question is does anyone else have this same motorcycle, and is it mispelled? I am planning on selling my collection, and I was looking at my collection and came across this one but it is mispelled, "Soorchin' Scooter" instead of "Scorchin' Scooter", was this a lucky find?

I also have a couple of cars that on the package it says they have FTE rims when they clearly don't. Are these special?

I also have a car that has FTE rims but it does not say it on the package. Special?

Lastly, if a car is faced backwards does that make it a rare find? I have two cars that are facing the opposite way of ALL the others.

Re: Hot Wheels Question

I remember that Scooter.  Yep, the proofreader was absent that day.  I can't remember if it was the entire run, or just the entire international carded run, but the entire run of one or the other (or both) were misspelled as "Soorchin Scooter" instead of Scorchin Scooter.

I have a feeling that what you're talking about with cards that say FTE rims when they don't have them are international cards.  That year, in 2006, the international cards all had a small FTE logo at the top, whether the cars had the FTE wheels or not.  You can tell the difference between a US card and an international card by looking at the code below the blister bubble. If the code says 1L (one language) it is a US card.  If it says 3L (three languages) it is an international card.

The car you have with FTE's on a card that doesn't denote it as an FTE rimmed car may also be an international card.  I believe for the first month or two of the 2006 releases, none of the international cards had the small fte logo at the top.  So cars like the Nissan Silvia and the Corolla were found with FTE's on non fte cards.  Again, look for the 3L at the bottom of the package.

Lastly, while cars facing backwards in the package are novelties and conversation pieces, and there may even be people out there who collect them, you would be hard pressed to find many people who would pay a premium beyond the cost of the car for one of these types of errors.

Re: Hot Wheels Question

Anyone know of a way to tell what is in a mystery car pack without opening it. Also anyone know of an easy way to keep up with all the different makes, models, colors and so on of hot wheel cars.

Well, in 2010, Mattel decided to put a "peep hole" in the back of the package to give you an idea as to what car is inside.

It seems they had too many people ripping open packs because they were tired of getting duplicates.  The peep hole was created to cut down on this.

for 2007, 2008, and 2009, the mystery cars are just that, a mystery.  I've seen people Xray them, but then you still can't tell what wheels are on the car or what color the car is.  I've seen people weigh them on a gram scale, but then some cars are the same weight.

There is no way for us to know what is inside.  Mattel has put an ASCII code on the back of each package, and supposedly they can tell what is inside with this code, but they haven't cracked the code for us or given us an ASCII reader with the data to figure it out for ourselves.  And really, why should they crack the code for us, they get us to buy more than one of the same thing with these blind black packages.  More sales for them.
