GreenLight Debuts the 1:18 Black Bandit Series with a famous Volkswage

GreenLight Debuts the 1:18 Black Bandit Series with a famous Volkswagen Duo
An unanimous appreciation for Volkswagen paired with the Black Bandit theme makes this 1:18 scale GreenLight Special Edition.

Indianapolis, IN (June 21, 2010) GreenLight pairs the Microbus and the Beetle in this 1:18 Series as homage to the internationally unmistakable German engineered Volkswagen.  This summer’s wave of the 1:18 Black Bandit Series is the second release after a Toys “R” Us exclusive premiered earlier this year.  The Black Bandit theme is meticulously produced with a triple-black theme. Black body paint, black interior detail, and custom black wheels are the distinguishing characteristics of these "outlaw" vehicles. The sleek styling of these renegade die-cast replicas give collectors all over the world a series to look forward to.

This two car series Includes:

1967 Volkswagen Beetle
1962 Volkswagen Microbus

In 1967 the Volkswagen Beetle had made some major strides within the model. While the car itself didn't get any bigger, many of its mechanical systems and components did.  For starters, a bigger engine, more horsepower, larger capacity of the electrical generator and an upgraded volt system. The addition of other improvements and new standard equipment put the final “punch” in this buggy.

The 1962 Volkswagen Microbus, after the Beetle, might be VW's most famous vehicle.  It owes its ability to be instantly recognizable, to its association with the 1960s and the counterculture movement.  Like the Beetle, the Microbus was a rear-engine vehicle, and as in the Beetle, the engine helped improve traction for the vehicle's rear wheels.  The Microbus is referred to by a number of names; “Minibus”, “Hippie van”, “Splitscreen” or “Splittie” and among American enthusiasts it is common to reference by the number of windows.  However you wish to call this model it is most assuredly sensational.

These 1:18 die-cast replicas feature detailed engines, real rubber tires, metal body and chassis, detailed graphics, custom license plates and are officially licensed. Their release is scheduled for Summer 2010 with a limited production of 3,000 pieces each and will be available through official GreenLight official hobby shops and wholesale dealers.  For more information about GreenLight's 1:18 scale and other quality collectibles from GreenLight, visit
